Dry needling is a minimally invasive technique that is extremely useful in cases where massage therapy and/or ultrasound, cold laser or other therapies did not achieve desired results in breaking up scar tissue or releasing trigger points in muscles that affect joint function.
Your Chiropractor uses tiny mono-filament stainless steel needles to target trigger points, improve blood flow, and relax and release tension in muscles. The needles are not hollowed out like regular medical needles, and are unlikely to draw blood. Some patients do not feel them being inserted at all. After insertion the physician may guide you through specific movements to enhance the benefit and/or manipulate the needles himself.
Dry Needling can provide immediate relief of trigger point pain, and increases circulation and blood flow to the injured area for maximal healing. Over the long term, you can expect increased flexibility and mobility due to muscles relaxing, along with reduction of chronic pain. In short Dry Needling can jumpstart the healing process and get you feeling better faster!
Conditions that respond well to Dry Needling
Most chronic unresolved soft soft injuries or areas of chronic scar tissue resulting in pain or reduced/limited range of motion respond well to Dry Needling. Areas we have found it particularly helpful are:
Tendonitis sprains strains trigger point fasciitis, myofascial adhesions persistent or chronic tight muscle or spasm
- Tendonitis
- Plantar Fasciitis
- Fasciitis
- Chronic muscle tension and/or spasms
- Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
- Chronic Headaches
- Sinus Pain and congestion, creating headaches etc.
- Chronic Hip or Low Back pain
- Chronic IT Band Syndrome
- Piriformis Syndrome
- Shoulder Dysfunction (adhesive capsulitis, impingement, rotator cuff strain)
